The Courage of Vulnerability

Being our true self can create a greater sense of self worth but developing courage in our vulnerable self can be difficult.

We live in a world where we may need to “mask” or shield our true selves.

From the start we are compared against metrics of things like: growth, achievement, weight, and height. This creates a precedent where how we present can create dissonance or a disconnect between our true selves and the self we deem the world expects us to be.

This dissonance can lead to anxiety and a decrease in functioning over time. Thus, when stress arises, we struggle to name, process, and express our needs.

Upholding this “mask” takes a tremendous amount of energy. Energy that could be spent being mindful. Being intentional. Being present. Energy that our families, partners, significant others, friends, and selves may yearn for.

It is often easier to take the path of least resistance - which tends to be the path we know. A path that is well worn from years, decades, generations of use. Modeled and passed down through our mitochondria. To try something new feels foreign - like a new skin. So we default back to what we know. Until we realize it is no longer serving us.

When we begin to take the courageous steps towards the authenticity of self - without shame and fear - can we live a life that is aligned with what we value and how we want to move through life.

Acknowledging that something is no longer working is painful. It is painful to admit we don't know. It is scary to embark upon the unknown.

But you don't need to do it alone. Let us work together to help create a greater sense of self and self worth so you can live a life of congruency.
